Effects of Psychosocial Factors on Adjustment in Young Students Studying Abroad: Focusing on Young Students in Newzealand

|
This study examines the effects of psychosocial factors on adjustment in juveniles studying abroad. A survey was conducted to 139 young Korean students in New Zealand. SIQYA, Life Satisfaction Scale, Acculturative Stress Scale and Life Stress Scale were used. The results showed that psychosocial factors affected adjustment. Firstly, all psychosocial factors had a positive correlation with life satisfaction and a negative correlation with life stress. Psychosocial factors and acculturative stress had negative correlation relationships, and homesickness had no correlation with peer and family relationship. Secondly, emotional tone, family relationship, superior adjustment influenced life satisfaction. Thirdly, different adjustment indicators were affected by different psychosocial factors: perceived discrimination by pathology, homesickness by psychopathology, peer and family relationship and perceived hostility by pathology and peer relationship, fear by pathology, peer relationship and impulse control, culture shock and guiltiness by pathology, miscellaneous stress by pathology and emotional tone. Lastly, their life stress is affected by emotional tone, superior adjustment, impulse control and body image influenced life stress.
